MANAIA SCHOOL WORK
MEETING OF COMMITTEE | "Last term ended with a roll of 185. The entrants of the first week of this term are six while two have withdrawn leaving a roll of 189," reported the headmaster, Mr. J. J. Calman, to the committee of the Manaia school at a meeting over which Mr. O. T. Parry presided, on Wednesday night. There was one case of chicken pox, one of measles and one of diphtheria. There were also cases of severe influenza. During the school holidays the stage in the school hall was. erected and was now almost complete. Improvements to the grounds were being carried out. The departmental inspectors had visited the school. Mr. Dixon, the Wanderlust representative, gave an address on Australia. . The buildings were clean and m good order but a new leak was found in the infant room. concluded the report. The headmast'er was authorised to purchose reference books. The children had commenced the collection of non-ferrous waste metals, stated the headmaster. The collection is in conjunction with the Manaia patriotic committee's effort. The Rev. R. Miller reported that on inspecting the school and grounds he found all in good order, the hedges being well trimmed and gardens free from weeds. A leak in the infants' class room roof required repairing. Messrs. Pease and Lloyd were appomted to represent the committee at the quarterly meeting of the South Taranaki School Committees' Association at Kaponga. Mr. Pease was appointed visitor for the ensuing month.
