HAT TRICK COMPLETED DEFEAT OF HIGH CASTE
Rec. 6.30 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 15. Contihuing his winning way, Beaulivre completed the hat trick on Saturday when he won the rich Chelrnsford Stakes at TattersgU's meeting at Randwick. He also established his superiority over High Caste, but the latter showed more dash on Saturday than in recent races and an interesting duel between the pair is expected in the Epsom Handicap, for which they are almost equal favourites. The Lord Quex colt, Pinero, who won the Three-Four Year Old Handicap, downed the odds-on favourite, Evergreen, for the second time within a fortnight. Beaupartir and Gladynev held forward positions in the Spring Handicap, but neither threatened danger in the final stages. The stewards held an inquiry into Gladynev's running and accepted an explanation of stable connections. The stewards later reported that they had reprimanded the jockey, Shean, for his indifferent handling of Gladynev. The chief results were:— TRAMWAY HANDICAP. TELASTUR, 7.8 (Knox) 1 KATANGA, 7.13 (Bartle) 2 RADICAL, 8.3 (Ashmore) 3 Fourteen started. Brazen Boy was scratched. Head; length. Time, lm 25s. CHELMSFORD STAKES. BEAULIVRE, 9.7 (Munro) 1 HIGH CASTE, 9.7 (Bartle) 2 PANDECT, 7.9 (Cook) 3 All started. Half a length; head. St. Constant was fourth. Nightbeam was eighth. Time, lm 52Js. SPRING HANDICAP. GUNDAGAI, 7.8 (Duncan) ' 1 OLD ROWLEY. 8.4 (Hickey) 2 DASHING CAVALIER, 8.13 (Coutts) 3 Fourteen started, including Beaupartir and Gladynev. Neck; three-quarters of a length. Cooranga was fourth, Gladynev was sixth and Beaupartir ninth. Time, 2m 5|s. The jockey, Munro, expressed the opinion that Ajax will have a hard task to beat Beaulivre in the weight-for-age races at Melbourne in October and November. The first clash is likely to be the Caulfield Stakes. Beaulivre's time for the Chelrnsford Stakes on Saturday of lm 514s was actually as meritorious as Heroic's lm 501s in 1924, as, owing to a false rail in use on Saturday, Beaulivre covered 27yds more than the customary distance of nine furlongs. Three colts whose prospects for the A.J.C. Derby were enhanced by Saturday's outings were Victorians, Lucrative, Pandect and Scientist, the latter winning the Randwick Novice in hollow fashion. Results of the Moonee Valley races at Melbourne on Saturday were:— MOONEE. VALLEY STAKES. SUN VALLEY, 8.9 (E. Preston) 1 WARBIRD, 8.9 (J. O'Brien) 2 INDUSTRY, 9.4 (T. Webster) 3 Fifteen started, including All Veil, Velocity and Bonny Vale. Three lengths; H lengths. Time, lm 411s. BUDGEREE HANDICAP. PANTOON, 8.9 (Creighton) 1 SPEARWING, 7.6 (Hall) 2 MALUNO, 8.2 (Mornement) • 3 Eleven started, including National. Length; head. Time, 2m 7Js.
