HAWERA TRACK NOTES

Interesting woYk by horses to race at Marton on Saturday wgs performed at Hawera on Saturday morning under good conditions. Trestles on the course proper were out 45 feet. Good gallops were registered by Winsome Lu, Stencil, Retort and Golden Ring. Interest to proceedings was given by the presence of Oney Cox after his recent illness, and he was warmly welcomed by his fellow trainers. Before breakfast Sea Link (Toki), looking in good order, was given a working gallop over a round, finishing up smartly. Stencil (Holland) went attractively m a gallop with H. Scally's maiden, Glenbburnim (Sexton) over half a mile. Stencil, who had a big concession in the weights, finished in front in 53sec. Min Vaals (Sexton) is on the improve and shaded Viracious (Toki) at the - end of four furlongs in 54sec. Min Vaals has been given an initial hurdle schooling and shaped satisfactorily. G;tana Lass (Sexton)' sprinted three furlongs in 41sec. Winsome Lu (Reilly) moved pleasmgly in her gallop over seven furlongs in lm 361s after covering' the first three in 40s. She was to have been brought home from the half mile by Silver Gift (Whiro), but the latter failed to make contact and afterwards did her four furlongs in 55>)s without being kicked out. Retort (McDonald) is showing decided improvement and scampered over two furlongs in a tick under 25s. If track conditions remain good Retort is to have her next outing at Marton on Saturday. Air Flight LRyan) sprinted two furlongs down the back in 26s. Le Marquise (Ryan), on the trial grass, sprinted three furlongs in 40s. On the same track Chiltern (McDonald) registered 55s. Notium (W. Grindlay) jumped three of the schooling hurdles safely. Battle Dress (Mills), Chief Lord (McDonald) and Ring Chief (Holland) were companions from the seven furlongs, the two first-named covering two furlongs in 27s. Chief Lord, continuing on, completed three furlongs in 411s. Friesland (Holland) did his usual solid pace work on the sand, working in great styleStudent Prince, Filbert, Val Pere and Val Bay worked at half-pace. Resingold (Sexton) and Gold Grip (Graham"> were companions in a sprint over two furlongs, Gold Grip showing to advantage in 27 l-5s. The Myosotis mare Bidens has rejoined R. Brough's team, looking well after her spell. . Golden Ring (Ryan) is coming to hand rapidly and shaped impressively to cover three furlongs down the back in a tick under 40s. Tavoy was restricted too steady pace work. Royal Star II and Surveyor-General are still being exercised round the roads. Airway, the darn of Air Flight, and Little Thrush, ' the dam of Little Robin, are being mated with Vaals.
