WHANGAMOMONA'S VOTES OMISSION OF MANGAPAPA Disappointment at the omission of the Mangapapa group metalling works from the Public Works Department annual roading votes was expressed at the monthly meeting of Ihe Whangamomona County Council when the chairman, Mr. M. P. Ford, presided. The district engineer for the Public Works Department at Stratford, Mr. F. W.. Lindup, advised that estimates for the current year were as follows: 630, Kohuratahi Road bridge, £790; 631, Kohuratahi Stream bridge (Gower's), £400 (free); 632, Makahu Stream bridge (Arnold's Road), £100; 633, Mangaehu Stream bridge (Murcott Road), £375 (£3 for £1); 634, Marco Road, £300; 635, Moki Road bridge, £100 on account; 636, Prospect Road, £500; 637, Tahora Road, £1000. The Medical Officer of Health, New Plymouth, advised the appointment of Mr. J. W. Brimblecombe as inspector of health for the district in succession to Mr. R. Gooding, who has been transferred to Wairoa. The council appointed Mr. Brimblecombe as its sanitary inspector, whose report was received dealing with infectious disease cases investigated, sanitary inspections made and samples taken under the Sale of Pure Food and Drugs Act for the period ended August 31. Traffic Inspeclor's Report. The traffic inspector for the district submitted his monthly report as follows: Breaches of traffic regulations reported to head office, 1; number of warnings issued, 13; heavy motor vehicles weighed, 2. He reported that roads within the county were patrolled during the month and it was noticeable that the traffic was particularly quiet and orderly. Warnings issued consisted mainly of minor traffic offences. A circular letter was read from the Minister of National Service concerning the formalion of an emergency reserve corps. The chairman reported having attended, with Councillors Roberton and Thompson, a meeting at New Plymouth addressed by the Hon. D. Wilson with regard to establishing reserve corps. It was decided to defer action pending further information from the Minister. - A communication was received from the .Commissioner of Transport outlining the main provisions of the Traffic Regulation 1936 Amendment No. 2 and enclosing a copy of the regulations. ResJgnation Received. Mr. J. C. Allen, formerly of Stratford, notified the council that he retired at the end of August and was moving to Auckland. He regretted he had to resign as the council's representative on the east committee of the National Park Board. Mr. Allen was thanked for services rendered during his term of office. An application was received from Mr. I. Telfer for permission to erect a private telephone line between his two properties in Mangare Road. This was granted. Reports on work done during the month were as follows: — Strathmore riding: A bridle track was made around a wash-out on upper Mangaehu Road and patching and watertabling done on the Makahu and Upper Mangaehu Roads. A 30ft 12in culvert pipe was removed and relaid. Favier Road: The chairman was authorised to engage casual labour to assist the work of quarrying metal at Makahu. Central riding: Slips were removed and water-tabling cleared on a part of Whangamomona Road. On Prospect Road a washout was repaired and two culverts replaced. Marco Road: A bridge was repaired and minor slips removed. Scrub was cut and water-tabling attended to on Kohuratahi Road and filling in of ruts and scrub-cutting executed on Putikituna Road. Ordinary maintenance work had been carried out in the Tahora riding.
