CONTRACTS DELAYED

FACTORY EXPLOSION Kenvil (New Jersey). Sept. 12. At least 50 persons were killed and 100 injured when a terrific explosion shook the Hercules powder plant, as well as the immediate vicinity. The explosion did incalculable damage and will delay British and American defence contracts totalling 17,000,000 dollars. Thirty bodies have been recovered and many injured , persons have been taken to hospital. Calls were sent out over a wide area for ambulances and first-aid squads. Every available fire-engine was rushed to the plant. The explosion was felt 20 miles away. The Hercules, one of the biggest powder manufacturing firms in the United States, has a number of plants, of which Kenvil is one. The company manufactures powder and dynamite for the Government.
