BILL OPPOSED
PORTS' AMALGAMATION NEW PLYMOUTH ACTION ENDOWMENT QUESTION Opposition to the Bill sponsored by the Waitara Borough Council for the amalgamation of the New Plymouth and Waitara harbour districts was expressed yesterday by the New Plymouth Harbour Board. Objection is taken to the proposal of the bor- , ough council to have the endowments of the Waitara Harbour Board, other than foreshore endowments, vested in the Waitara Borough Council for river protection work at Waitara. Representatives of the Clifton ahd I Taranaki County Councils, which are also opposing the Bill, waited on the harbour board yesterday, both that and the following discussion being taken in committee. When open meeting was resumed the following resolution moved by Mr. .S. Vickers and seconded by Mr. J. H. H. Holm was carried without discussion or dissent:— "That the board, while approving the principle of amalgamation with the Waitara harbour district is firmly of the opinion that the endowment reserves of the Waitara Harbour Board should be vested in the New Plymouth Harbour Board for the benefit of the amalgamated district and resolves to oppose the Bill in its present form and appoints the chairman, Mr. C. E. Bellringer, and Mr. J. I . Campbell to collaborate with the counties' committee in opposing the Bill in its present form before the Parliament Local Bills Committee, Messrs. Bellringer and Campbell having po.wer to agree on behalf of the boajrd to any counter-proposals or compromises which may be agreed upon."
