SPITFIRE GIFT FUND
PROGRESS IN TARANAKI Steady progress is being made towards the goal of £6500 for the Taranaki Spitfire fund and yesterday the total acknowledged was £2085 9s 4d, to which other substantial amounts have to be added. The district totals are: New Plymouth, £1503 ls 4d; Hawera, £415; Waitara, £132 15s; Eltham, £34 13s. Bowlers of New Plymouth are supporting the fund and 26 rinks have been entered for a one-day tournament on the West End and Fitzroy greens to-morrow. At a meeting of the Welbourn School Welfare Association it was unanimously decided to make a donation of £2 10s to the New Plymouth fund. At Waitara a canvass is under way which is meeting with a ready response. This effort will, it is hoped, be finished this week but plans have been made ,for a big street collection to-morrow, which is expected to add considerably to Waitara's fine total. Hawkes Bay is making excellent progress with its collection. Napier has raised all but £135 of its allocation and Hastings is £265 short. Over the whole province about £4000 has been raised. | New Plymouth acknowledgments yesterday were: |
