AVONDALE TRIALS

GALLOPS ON TUESDAY NORTH TRACK WORK The semi-final gallops of the horses engaged at the Avondale meeting took place on northern tracks on Tuesday morning, states the Auckland Star. At I Ellerslie on the No. 2 grass, where the I fast work took place, the going was holding 'after rain overnight. There were no particularly fast times register- ' ed, the best being that of Nuna and Brahman over three furlongs, while Golden Bonnet and Bournemouth also worked well over a similar distance. Moneyspinner and Rara Avis went well over five, and Royal Message and Llandaff impressed while traversing the same ground. Sir Cameron and Bronze Fire went particularly well over six furlongs, as did Odtaa, while Kelly did best over a round. Nuna (McTavish) and Brahman (Vaughan) reeled off three furlongs in 39s. There was not much between them and both worked well, particularly Nuna, who is engaged in the Avondale Stakes. Bournemouth Improved. Golden Bonnet (Manson) walked round to the three -furlong post and came home in 39 2-5s. She will probably race on the sqcond day at Avondale. The maiden Bournemouth (Tremain) occupied 40s for a similar task. This three-year-old looks much improved as the result of his trip. to Taranaki. King's Flight (Williams) got to the end of the same distance in 41 3-5s, and Romani (Spick) beat Baloshiel (Kerr) over three furlongs in 39 4-5s. Moneyspinner (Vaughan) beat Desert Time (Poad) by a couple of lengths over five furlongs in 1.6 2-5s, the last three in 40 2-5s. Moneyspinner worked with more dash than usual. Rara Avis (Vaughan) was timed to cover the distance in 1.6 4-5s, the last half-mile in 52 4-5s. He worked very easily and should not take long to lose his maiden status. Royal Message (Vaughan) got the better of i>hil Vaals (Gilchrist) at the start, but waited on her companion and beat her home by several lengths in lm 7 1-5s. the first two taking 26 2-5s. In. a similar task Llandaff (Messervy) took lm 7 3-5s, the last three in 39 3-5s. Sir Cameron (D. Green) and Bronze Fire (Messervy) impressed .while running six furlongs in lm 19 4-5s, the first three in 38 4-5s. They finished clear of Phaleron (McTavish), Rex Maitland (Hearn) and Brazilian (McGill). Sir Cameron has come on fast of late and should give a good account of himself in the Avondale Guineas. Odtaa (Gilchrist), who is engaged in the Champion Plate, was running on solidly at the end of six furlongs. which took lm 20 2-5s, beating Master Warden (Spick) by a good margin. Kelly (Gilchrist) got to the end of a round in 1.49, being assisted over the last six furlongs by Rival (Messervy). The latter distance took 1.21 4-5s, and they were together at the finish. Laughing' Fbx (Bartle) and Olympus (McKenzie) were associated over half a mile in 53 4-5s. The former who was raced only lightly last season, has' furnished into a fine stamp of three-year-old, and interest will attach to his progress from now on.
