RAID ON TEL-AVIV ITALIANS COPY NAZIS NO MILITARY OBJECTIVE
Rec. 11-20 p.m. London, Sept. 11. Ninety-six persons were killed and 124 injured when Italian planes raided Tel-Aviv, a purely Jewishcommercial city, where there are no military objectives, says a . Jerusalem message. The Palestine wireless announced that some Americans were killed in the raid. An anny communique issued at Cairo states: "Over 50 civilians, including five Arab children, were killed when Italian planes raided Tel-Aviv and the adjoining area, bombing indiscriminately far from military objectives. Several houses were destroyed, but fires that were started were quickly controlled. Enemy planes raided Mersa Matruh, where slight damage was done, but no casualties re- : sulted. . A British patrol successfully encountered a party of banda at E1 Katulo, on the northern frontier of Kenya."
- Royal Air Force Activity. A communique issued by the Royal Air force states: "Our bombers on Monday successfully attacked aerodromes and harbours in eastern Libya. Two ground- ; ed enemy planes were destroyed by direct hits when the Derna aerodrome ' was raided. In the ET Gazala, Boma and El. Timi areas bombs feli among planes on. slip-w-ays. Columixs of smoke 1500 feet high followed explosions after an attack on objectives in the Tobruk, El Gabbi and .El Aden areas. All planes retunied from all operations. "Enemy bombers raided Sidi Barrani on Monday, but there were no casualties. The Royal Air Force attacked Dessie, where military buildings were destroyed. Enemy fighters unsuccessfully attempted to intercept the raiders. Asab, Massawa, Asmara, the Abdel Kader peninsula and Metemme were all raided. One Caproni was shot down." » An Italian communique from Rome stated: "The air force started fires at Jaffa, blew up a train on the Mersa Matruh railway, and bombed and mach-ine-gunned troop encampments in North Africa. The enemy raided a post in Cyrenaica. One person was killed and four wounded. The damage was insignificant.' The enemy also atacked Massawa, Asmara and Dessie.. Two persons were killed and three wounded.
