REPLACEMENT SUPPLIES AMPLE CRAFT AVAILABLE
Rec. 7.40 p.m. Washington, Sept. 10. Mr. Arthur Purvis, head of the British purchasing commission, conferred with the Secretary for War, Mr. H. L. Stimson, to-day. Mr. Purvis said the visit did not involve an appeal for planes. British sources say American aircraft factories are turning out planes for Britain at a rate sufficient to replace a quarter of the Royal Air Force losses and British production is more than making up the remainder of the losses. The defence production co-ordinator, Mr. W. S. Knudsen, announced that the defence schedule, including planes for Britain, called for a peak production of 3000 planes a month by July, 1942, and by April, 1942, . it was expected a total of 33,000 planes would have been completed, of which 14.000 would go to Britain and the remainder into American service.
