PATRIOTIC CONCERT
NEW PLYMOUTH CHILDREN The New Plymouth junior choir conducted by Mr. P. Frnncis was heard to advantage at a vvell-attended concert in aid of patriotic funds at the Workers' Social Hall on Tuesday evening. The concert was organised by Fr. Francis. The children sang very vvell in a seiection of varied songs in unison and harmonised form. Theii items were interspersed with varied solo and other items which made up a balanced p'rogramme, which was enthusiastically received. In spite of the unfavourable weather there was a fair attendance. The Rev. F. Hart presided and at the conclusion he expressed, on bchalf of Mr. Francis and his choir, their appreciation of the support accorded them and thanks to the assisting soloists. He also asked Miss Norma McArtney to present a bouquet to Miss G. Preacher as a token
of appreciation of her work as accompanist. The choir items included the songs "God Defend New Zealandf' "I Know a Bank," "Tlre Fisherman," "Where the Bee Sucks," "Dawn,'f "Song of the Mariner," "John Peel" and "On the Banks of Allan Water." Recitations were given by Miss D. Burrows; cornet solos, Master I, Eva; 'cello solos, Mr. A,, Ramsay; banjo solos, Mr. C. Martin; xylophone solos, Mr. C. Smith; dances, Miss Norma McArtney; dance duos, Colleen and Bebe Lynch; songs, Evelyn Lawson; vocal duets, Shirley Johnson and Evelyn Lawson; violin solos, Miss M. Gilbert; conjuring, Mr. R. Robbins. The concert ended with tlie singing of the National Anthem.
