ITALIAN SHIPS SUNK
' SUPPLIES FOR LIBYA Rugby, Sept 9. Recent . succassful activities of British submaaines are mentioned in an Admiral ty communique, which states: "British 6ubmarines operating in Mediterranean waters are adding considerably to the Italian high command's difficulties in keeping its army in Libya supplied. "The submarine Osiris has sunk an Italian supply ship of about 3000 tons and the submarine Rorqual has attacked a convoy of two supply ships escorted by one destroyer. The Rorqual torpedoed and sank both Italian supply ships." Another Admiralty communique announces that the submarine Phoenix is considerably overdue and must be considered lost. Anti-aircraft fire drove off Italian bombers attempting to attack British warsHips at Alexandria. A few bombs were dropped and one person was killed and another injured. Not a military objective was hit. A Cairo communique states: "Some damage and casualties were caused by an enemy- air raid on Mersa Matruh. Little damage was caused and there were no casualties."
