TARANAKI BEATEN
PRIMAKY SCHOOL HOCKEY Despite adverse weather at Wellington recently, a good standard of hockey was displayed when a primary school team, representative of Taranaki, met a Wellington representative primary school team and was-defeated by four points to one. The ground was very muddy, but both teams quickly settled down to good, hard hockey. The Wellington team, however, had the advantage of more practice and greater experience , than the boys from Taranaki. Although Wellington won by four goals to one, it did not find it easy to score. The team's strongest feature was the forward line which produced some excellent movements. Th^ Taranaki defence was sound, however, and usually succeeded in breaking up Wellington's attacks. Barleyman, who took a pass on the half-way line in the second spell of play, took charge to make a splendid solo run through the opposing "defence, beat the goalie, and score Taranaki's only goal. From this stage to the end of the game Taranaki held Wellington in its own half, and but for the heavy conditions of the ground would probably have reduced Wellington's lead. Both teams, however, played with untiring energy until the final whistle blew. The Taranaki team was: W. Reader (Douglas); C. West (Kaponga), C. Walter (Douglas); C. Moore (Pukengahu). E. Reed (Strathmore), K. Murphy (Huiroa), R. Moore (Pukengahu), J. Dunlop (Kaponga), W. Barleyman (Kaponga), D. Walter, captain (Douglas), I. Stewart (Strathmore).
