Bette Davis Nearly Pulled Out
It is not generally known that Bette Davis, whose latest starring vehicle is "All This and Heaven Too," made up her mind to retire from her acting career last year. She did leave Hollywood and stayed away for seven months. She bought a car and a caravan and started to drive through New England. "Each mile I travelled brought increased peace," said Miss Davis in describing her experience later. "Then finally I came upon a little place way up in New Hampshire. " 'Bette, that's for you,' I said to myself without debate. And I bought it. "All right. smile," she concluded, "but I got Mr. Jack Warner's promise that from now on I will get three consecutive months away from pictures whenever I feel the need."
