RUGBY FOOTBALL

FRANCE DEFEATS WALES. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. United Service. Paris, April 9. At Rugby football France defeated Wales by 8 points to 3. THE ELTHAM TOURNAMENT. The popularity of seven-a-jside football with its bright and spectacular play was strikingly evidenced at Kaponga on Saturday, and as the play shows this has only whetted the appetites of enthusiasts there should be a very large attendance at Taumata Park, FJtham, on Saturday, when the seven-a-side tournament for the handsome Dunn Shield is to be held. Play will be even higher than at Kaponga, for players will be in better condition as the result of the earlier outing. Besides the shield the club is donating seven handsome gold medals to the winners, so that there should be very keen competition. Secretaries of clubs throughout Taranaki are reminded that nominations close with the joint hon. secretaries, Messrs. E. L. Egarr and H. Nuttall, at 9 o’clock tomorrow night.
