CRICKET IN HAWKE'S BAY
DRAWN GAMES WITH VISITORS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. In a cricket match against Wellington to-day Hawke’s Bay concluded the first innings, which had produced 274 runs for four wickete on Saturday, the total eventually reaching 347 against Wellington's 323. Shepherd 46, Beuth 49, Lowr 141 and Owen 35 were the ‘best batsmen, while McGirr took seven wickets for 83 runs. Wellington started the second innings and compiled 51 for three wickets before stumps were drawn, the match resulting in a draw. DRAWN MATCH WITH MANAWATU. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. Manawatu’s first innings in a match against Hawke’s Bay was resumed to-day and realised 211, being 133 short of the local side’s first effort. Morris 41, 3. Young 25, Gallichan 24 and Cameron 22 were the principal contributors. Stephenson took four wickets for 16 runs, and Pirie three for 32. The visitors followed on and lost five for 133, J. Young making 39 not .out, Morris 38 and Pacey 22. Bradburn took three wickets for 15 runs. The match was drawn.
