OLD MAN BURNED TO DEATH
AN OPEN VERDICT RETURNED. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. An old age pensioner named James Murison, 67 years of age, was burnt to death in a hut at Prebbleton this morning. A neighbouring farmer saw the hut afire at 6.30 and found the charred remains of Murison at what was left of the front door. Evidence at the inquest showed that deceased, who was a bachelor, had lived alone in the hut for 20 years. He was last seen alive at 6.30 on the previous evening. Murison read a great' deal, keeping a light burning almost all night. No relatives are known. A verdict was returned of death from injuries received through the hut catching fire.
