EASTER BOWLING TOURNEY PLAY IN ■SOUTH TARANAKI. ■SEMI-FINALS COMMENCED. Light showers fell in Hawera yesterday morning and prospects for the third day’s programme of the South Taranaki bowling tournament, which i a being held on the Hawera and Park clubs’ greens, appeared anything but bright. Nevertheless by ten o’clock the rain had ceased and the tourney was continued, good progress being made, thanks to the capable organisation and good work of the officials and the tournament secretary, Mr. J. Champion, By three o’clock . sectional play was completed and th© bowlers from the Hawera given adjourned io the Park green, where the semi-finals were commenced. The less fortunate bowlers who were eliminated in the sectional play lined the bank’s and were interested spectators of the matches, and the first life of the semi-finals was completed in light rain at intervals with frequent gusts of wind rendering conditions somewhat unpleasant. Weather permitting, the semi-finals will be continued on the Park green tfhas morning. The rinks which qualified for postsectional play, by winning at least six out of the eight matches played were as follow: .

HAWERA BEAT MARISTS. A Hawera combined team defeated a Marists holiday’touring team from Wellington in the second game yesterday by 194 to 127 on the first innings after an enjoyable game. In Wellington’s innings Reigling (44) and Tarleton (29) both batted attractively and without a chance, while Gamble made 14 not out. Lay (four wickets for 25) and Barker (three for 7) secured the most wickets. In the second innings the light forced the abandonment of play, Day retiring with 32, B. Griffiths not out 14, and Tarleton 16. Machin and Jennings bowled best for Hawera. The features of Hawera’s only innings were Milroy 50 retired, Jennings 31, Moloney 19, Lay 26, and Chadwick not out 14. GENERAL. The annual Rugby football match between Hawera and Aramoho third grade team’s for the Bartlett Cup resulted in a win for Hawera by 22 points to nil in Hawera on Saturday.

The time was about 2 a.m., and his lorry was ablaze on the roadside near Hawera.
