ADDITIONAL DECLARATIONS THE ORDERJN-OOUNCUL ISSUED. BENEFITS OF PETROL TAX. Secondary roods in counties will benefit coneiderably as the result of the latest step the Main Highways Board has taken in connection with the allocation of revenue from the petrol tax, an Order-in-Council issued on Thursday declaring 2750 mike of such roads an additional main highways, including several local areae. Some months ago the district hrgliways council were asked to recommend suitable secondary roads for declaration as main highways, the intention being to declare a« such approximately an additional 3000 milee. The total mileage recommended by the council®, however, amounted to approximately 4300 miles, but in order to avoid delay the Main Highways Board has selected a total mileage of approximately 2750 miles. The declaration of these roads as main highways means that the controlling authorities will receive a subsidy of fl 10s for fl on maintenance expenditure. A later Gazette notice will deal with the balance of euch roads to be declared.

Skeet .Road (Eltham, Hawera, Waimate West and Egmont Counties) —20 milee 40 chains. Normanby to Manala-Mount Egmeai Main Highway (Waimate West County) —2 nrties. Eltham-Rawhitiroa (Eltham County) —9 miles. Pembroke Road (Stratford County)--5 njiles 40 chains. Stratford Borough—4o chains. Beaconsfield Road (Stratford County) —5 miles 60 chains.
