Walter Charles Preston, a professional runner, was committed for trial on a charge of making a false statement in a statutory declaration. It was alleged that Preston was a professional runner in New Zealand, where he made £l5OO in stake monev. Then he came to Australia, where, under the name of Walter Kimber, he ran at various places and won many races. He afterwards went to Victoria and competed with success at country meetings. It was stated that he had won £2BO in stakes since March, 1927. It is also alleged that Preston pleaded not guilty to having made a false declaration to the Victorian Athletic League.
