SCENE IN THE COMMONS
MAN JUMP’S INTO PEERS'GALLERY By Telegraph—Press Assn —Copyright. A, and N.Z. London, April 4. There was an amazing scene in the House of Commons during the debate on the syndication of the Press. Mr. Snell expressed the opinion that journalists, by banding together, could protect themselves, when a man in ..the strangers’ gallery jumped up and shouted, “I can give that protection.” He then leaped the barrier and came crashing down into the Peers’ gallery, which runs the length of the Chamber at right angles and is below the strangers’ gallery. The man was apparently on the point of jumping down to the floor of the House when attendants seized him after a violent struggle. Other attendants rushed up and after further struggling the interrupter was carried out. The man was overpowered in the nick of time, as he appeared about to fling himself headlong into the chamber. He was carried out and examined by Dr. Vernon Davies, who expressed the opinion that he was suffering from acute neurasthenia. He was taken in an ambulance to the Westminster Hospital. He gave the name of Edward Charles Humphreys, aged 32 years.
