GREAT PROPERTY DAMAGE HOMELESS PEOPLE SUFFER COMMUNICATIONS CUT OFF Tfs Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. A. and N.Z. Omaha, April 6. The whole of Eastern Nebraska is suffering one of the worst storms ever experienced. Wire communications have. been disrupted, and the city is virtually isolated, except for radio transmission. Heavy snows have fallen. The damage at present is inestimable. The Plains States are suffering from unseasonable snow and cold weather. Snow covered large areas of Minnesota, lowa, Nebraska, and rain and . mist spread over most of the remainder of the Middle West. Reports from Kansas City state that cold and rain are hampering relief work in the storm-stricken towns and cities of the south-western States, causing keen suffering among the homeless. Property damage from the storm is now estimated at over £BOO,OOO. Earlier messages from Kansas City stated that cloudbursts and cyclonic storms had been experienced i-i the south-western States. Four lives were known to have been lost and live persons were missing. Hundreds of people were homeless and great dam»ge had been done to property. Tornadoes were reported to have occurred at several places in Kansas Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. Heavy rain followed the winds and the lowland areas were flooded for miles. Communications with the stricken areas had been demoralised. The floods at Shawnee, Oklahoma, washed scores of houses and business buildings from their foundations, and two women were swept away.
