EMPTY HOUSE BLOWN UP
SENSATION IN AUCKLAND. \ Bj Telegraph,—Press Association. Auckland, April 7. An unoccupied house at Remuera owned by Hugh Montgomery, buret into flamet this morning. The outbreak was preceded by a terrific explosion which was felt ovet a quarter of a mile radius and the reven Aerations were heard all over the city. When the brigade arrived the house of six rooms was like a furnace. The police searched the ruins subsequently, seeking the cause of the explos ion. It is stated there were tins of paint in a shed, which could not account foi so heavy a concussion, while the theory of "a gas explosion is discounted by the statement that Montgomery turned the gas off before leaving for the Easter holidays. The contents of the building were scattered over a wide area. The house war insured for £5OO and the contents for £l5O
