SHARK ATTACKS BATHER

MAN SHOCKINGLY MUTILATED. BRAVE RESCUE BY A GIRL. By Telejrarh—Press Assn Copyright. A. and N.Z. Sydney, April 5. While bathing in the surf near Newcastle last evening, Arthur E. Lane, business manager of Henry Lane, Australia Limited, was attacked by a shark and severely mauled. He died en route to the hospital. Miss Luck Donaldson, aged 20, was bathing nearby with a girl friend. She sent the latter for assistance while she herself hurried out to Lane. 50 yards away. Miss Donaldson splashed the water as she neared Lane and the shark, frightened disappeared. The girl found Lane almost unconscious and dragged him to the shore where .s--sistance was available. The man’s right hand was bitten off and a large piece taken out of his left thigh, while his calf and shin bone showed marks of the shark's teeth.
