Show, making the event an unqualified success. The bullock, whose huge proportions were the subject of the closest scrutiny by hundreds of people, was lent for the occasion by Air. C. J. Lamplough. It was killed and weighed at the abattoirs yesterday morning, and the committee have announced the following winners: Mr. C. Thompson (New Plymouth) and Air. Skinner (Huiroa) tied for first place, both estimating the exact weight, 1078 lbs. Mr. D. J. Alaione, of Stratford, was third, estimating 1078111)3. The nearest lady was Airs. Woodmore, of Croydon Road, Waipuku, who guessed 1077jlbs. The estimates, which bore the signatures of people from near and distant parts, ranged from SOJlbs. to 4047J1b5. Rain fell in Stratford on 21 days in November, the total fall being 13. Sin November 4 was the wettest day, 2.9 in. of rain falling in the 21 hours. A verdict of accidental drowning was returned by the jury at the inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Patrick Noel Duggan, a boy who was drowned at Tangarakau on November 27. Air. 11. McLeod, J.P., was acting-coroner, and Constable Whiting represented the police. KING’S THEATRE. TO-NIGHT ONLY—MATINEE 1.30 P.M. Transplanting Paris in all its details to California was one of the problems that Malcolm St. Clair had to contend with during the filming of “The Grand Duchess and the Waiter,” commencing to-day at the King’s Theatre, and in which Adolphe Meujou and Florence Vidor portray the featured roles. It was found impossible to produce the picture in Paris, so a section of the French capital was faithfully reproduced in Hollywood. Before attempting thia task, however, photographs were obtained of the section to be duplicated, and every building was constructed according to its real appearance. When completed, four native Frenchmen, recently from Paris, declared the set was absolutely flawless and almost impossible to tell from the, real thing. Another instance of the magic of the movies.
