PICTURES IN THE SKY.
If ever a beanstalk I should find, Like Jack in the fairy-tale, ‘ld climb and climb till I reached the sky, Then I’d go for a lovely sail In one of those golden galleon-ships That are launched in Sunset-Land; Such lots of things I want to know, That I don’t quite understand! Are the pictures up in the sunset sky As real as they look to me? Should I find the mountains, lakes and isles, That I always seem to see In the colours that take your breath away—• Vermilion, and gold and green— And amber, and rose, and amethyst—■ And all the tints between?— If only a beanstalk I could find, To know if I’m dreaming true! ? If there really are enchanted isles In the sunset’s radiant hue!— I wait down here by the garden gate And the sunset ships go by; But tVre’s never a beanstalk I can clmb To my pictures in the sky! —Daffy Dill.
