PREMIERS IN ENGLAND
VISIT TO CAIII’ET I’AC’TOIIY. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, Dee. L Still beset by cold * foggy weather, Messrs. Bruce and Coates visited atBirmingham Nettleford’s screw works, where Air. Joseph Chamberlain made his fortune, and afterwards went to Kidderminster and saw at Brinton s factory the carpets ordered for Canberra, some to designs submitted from Australia. To say the least the designs chosen, or forwarded, surprised everyone. They' .compared unfavoural)ly with the more tasteful designs in stock. The party was shown samples designed by the Prince -Consbrt as well as the patterns favoured in Australia 30 or 40 years ago and, to modern eyes, all were equally ghastly. Later Messrs. Bruce and Coates Yvere given a luncheon and became Kidderminster’s only' living freemen. Both were surprised to learn that the carpet indubtri' was one of the to suiter little after the war.
