A Brisbane cablegram reports the death of Sir A. S. Cowley, ox-Minister of Lands and ex-Speaker, aged 78 years. Exeter City Council has deeded to present the freedom of the city to Mr. S. M. Bruce on Monday, when he will cut the first sod of the future southwest of England University. Mr. J. B. Bennett, master of the Opaku School, Patea, has been appointed master of the Taikorea School, Manawatu, which he will take over at the beginning of the year. A Press Association message from Feilding reports the death of Mr. W. G. Hayfoitt'le, an ex-Mayor of Feilding, an ex-president of the Jockey Club, an ex-chairman of the Rangitikei Sawmillers’ Association, and a prominent Freemason. He was the oldest resident in the Manchester block. Sir Charles George Todhunter. K.C.5.1., arrived in Christchurch on Wednesday on a holiday visit to his mother.
