ALLEN UPWARD’S WILL
LEAVES ALL TO A FRIEND. By Telegraph—Pres- Assn. —Copyright. Received Dec. 1, 9.40 p.m. London, Dee. 1. Allen Upward, the author, who committed suicide under the impression that he was a failure as a literary man, left all he possessed to Mr. Stephen Graham, according to the Daily Express, but the amount is not stated. The will added that Mr. Upward’s desire was to be buried in unconsecrato-1 ground in perfect silence, and forbade any memorial. Mr. Graham, in an interview, expressed the opinion that Mr. Upward committed suicide in order to draw attention to his work. “A desperate measure, which he mentioned to me some years ago, but to which I had no idea he would resort.” Mr. Stephen Graham is the author of interesting volumes dealing with Russia. He shared rooms in Moscow with two students, then tramped through the Caucasus, went to Jerusalem with Russian pilgrims, and to the U.S.A, with Russian emigrants. He has also published an interesting record of a tramp in U.S.A. and has been a contributor to The Tinies.
