(By YVire —Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. The Takapuna Jockey Club’s spring meeting was concluded to-day. The weather was good and there was a fair attendance. The course was very heavy and a portion of it for about a furlong coming to the turn was flagged off for a width of about four feet. During the running of the St. Andrew’s Handicap Boomerday had one of his eyes knocked out. It is stated that one of the horses in front smashed one of the flag stakes and a piece of wood struck Boomerday in the eye, knocking it out. Y’ctcrinary attention was at hand as soon as the horse returned to scale. Five favourites and two second favourites were successful, and the only surprise was the victory of Princess Ronnie in the St. Andrew’s Handicap. The bracket, Bahama and YVaitekohe, was in slightly better demand than Cantab for the. Y’auxhall Handicap, with Anolo at a fair price. Bahama began well and made the early running from Kyngzoue and Cantab, Kyngzone dropping back after going a few furlongs. Bahama led into the straight from Cantab, Harbour Y’iew. Abbey Day and Anolo. Ridden out, Bahama came on to win by a length and a half from Anolo, who finished well and defeated Harbour Y’iew by two lengths. kohe. who was badly drawn at the post and in a back ird position early, v as
fourth; followed by Cantab, Queen Rewa and Boid Front. ROYAL FORM FINISHES YVELL. For the Kawau High-YY’eight Handicap Royal Form was a good favourite over Passionate, who raced with shoes on, and Black Cruiser. Fair Abbey led for a few furlongs and then Kamehameha took charge, followed by Pentagram, Fair Abbey and Royal Form. The field bunched at the half-mile post and all had chances at that stage. A little further on Royal Form assumed command and he was never afterwards, troubled to win by three parts of a length from Kamehameha and Fair Abbey, who deadheated for second. Sea Comet was fourth, followed by Black Cruiser, Pentagram and Passionate. HOT FAVOURITE SCORES. Two defections left eight runners in the Stanley Handicap. Arcbeno being nearly a £3OO better favourite than Mave'elish. Bizarro was soon in front, closely followed by Luxurious, Judge’s Box, who fell after going two furlongs, Newburv. Maveelish ami Areheuo. YY’ith half the journey covered Archeno moved up and. running to the front nearing the turn, she came on to win easily by two lengths from Maveelish, who defeat-' ed Luxurious by a short head. Valken was fourth aifd’then came Bizarro, Newbury and Blue Sky. H. Dulieu, the rider of judge’s Box, received abrasions on the arm, but was otherwise uninjured. Archeno has won twice this season and is a useful hack.
RUFFLES' BRILLIANT YVIN. Ruffles was a firm favourite for the Cautley Handicap, being over £4OO better backed than the second choice, Archcen. with Nancy Lee third choice. Archeen moved first to lead along the back, closely followed by Tutankhamen, Nancy Lee, Hoariri and Clarus, with Ruffles, who was squeezed back at the start, running through on the rails. Archeen led into the straight, closely attended by Ruffles, with Tutankhamen and King Merv handy. Once they straightened up Ruffles came through on the fence to win brilliantly by two lengths from King Merv, who defeated Archeen by three parts of a length. Tutankhamen was a fair fourth, followed by Hoariri, Nancy Lee, Pavo and Clarus. Ruffles won in the style of a good horse and is undoubtedly good. AN OUTSIDER GETS HOME. All started in the St. Andrew’s Handicap, Ruapapa, Nippy and Mosaic being the popular fancies, with some of the others at long prices. Mosaic and Nippy got away badly, but the former got a good run on the fence and soon got into a nice position. Charlady, Queen Arch, Princess Ronnie, Aurumavis and Master Doon comprised the leading division for most of the way. Princess Ronnie ran to the front nearing the turn and led into the straight from Charlady, Aurumavis and Mosaic, with Ruapapa coming fast. Princess Ronnie held her own in the run home to win by a length from the fast finishing Ruapapa. Charlady was half a length away third, with Aurumavis a close fourth. Then came Mosaic, Master Doon, Nippy and Transformer. LORNA DOON YVINS EASILY. The six acceptors lined up for the Rakino Handicap, but owing to Archana and Golden Wedding being in the same ownership it was a one dividend field. High France was favourite, nearly £-100 better backed than the second fancy, Lorna Doon. From a perfect start Lorna Doon was first to show out, and she led into the straight from Archana, High Finance, who ran wide rounding the bend, and Exalted. Nothing had a chance with Lorna Doon in the straight and she won easily by two lengths from the fast finishing Auriculas. Archana was three lengths away third, with High Finance fourth. Exalted was fifth, and Golden YVedding last. DELIGHTMENT AGAIN. Golden Krist was made a slightly better favourite than Delightment for the Pupuko Hack Handicap, the pair carrying slightly more than half the investments. Schorr and Quinsilia attended to the pace-making, but Golden Krist and Delightment moved up three furlongs from home. Delightmerit, Schorr and Golden Krist were together turning for home, but Delightment finished strongly and won by two lengths from Sclwrr,’ who defeated Golden Krist by a neck. Quinsilia wss fourth, Star Comet fifth and Salamander last. Delightment has been racing ve-.y consistently, having notched five wins and a third in his last six starts. FINAL EY’ENT TO TRUE BLOOD. True Blood was a pronounced favourite for the Ngataringa Handicap, ami he justified the confidence placed in him by winning easily. Ring the Bell was a good second choice, but he was never prominent. Namutere and Muscari led for a few furlongs, when Prince Abbey took a turn in the lead. True Blood ran to the front before reaching the turn and won by five lengths from Aurumavis, who defeated Arch Amie by two and a half lengths. Muscari was fourth, followed by Dave, Archibald and Namutere. True. Blood was the third winner ridden by E. Keesing during the day.
