ACTIVITY OF RAILWAYS
SERVICES ON THE ROADS. By Telegraph-—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night Following the purchase and opera* tion of five buses on the Napier to Hastings route three weeks ago, eight additional buses were bought by the Railway Department yesterday at a satisfactory price and taken over. The position, therefore, on that route is no longer complicated. The commercial manager of the department, Mr. D. Rodie, has now gone south with the object of instituting » new bus service in lieu of the present train service in the Oamarn, Tokorahi and Ngapara districts. A 20-seater but has been sent to Oamaru for the inauguration of the service. All the drivers of the buses of firms bought out are retained. The matter of reducing local train services where this can tie done without interfering with the general efficiency of transport is also receiving attention.
