ROYAL VISIT TO TARANAKI

THE PROGRAMME OUTLINED ONE HOUR IN NEW PLYMOUTH. SCHOOL CHILDREN TO ASSEMBLE. Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York are to arrive in New Plymouth by train at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, and leave one hour later for Central and South Taranaki and the south. Advice to this effect has been received by the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) from the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. F. Bollard). A suggestion is made that the children from the town and surrounding districts might be assembled and it is indicated that free railway transport to the centres visited by the Royal party has been authorised for all children of standard 3 and upwards. The Taranaki Education Board will be requested to -make the necessary arrangements. The 'Government will subsidise and arrange for the validation of any reasonable expenditure incurred by local bodies in connection therewith, the maximum subsidy in the case of New Plymouth being £lOO. The Government buildings and Post C ..ice are to lie flagged, and it is suggested that, in order to make as fine a display as possible, in addition to any municipal decorations that may be decided upon, the Mayor should also request citizens suitably to decorate their premises by flagging or otherwise. Addresses should be made to Their Royal Highnesses jointly and the Minister hoped they would be limited to a few words of loyal welcome. It fs desired that all local bodies and organisations shall combine forces in the presentation of an address, which should take place at the civic welcome in the town or city visited, or, in the case of short stops, at the railway stations. While

it may not be found practicable to limit the number of addresses to one in cities, it had to be noted that the Duke of York will acknowledge all addresses presented at each place in one comprehensive reply.
