The annual report of the Secretary for Commerce, Mr. E. C. Hoover, pictures the fiscal year just ending as unsurpassed in the history of tire United States in respect to the volume of production and consumption, the physical quantity of exports and imports, and in regard to wages. The report declares that there is practically no unemployment in the country, which is able to maintain the highest standard of living it has ever known. Mr, Hoover states that the financial improvement in Europe is almost general, but that- France’s difficulty in solving the problem, of currency is one of the most unsatisfactory spots in international finance. Manufacturers showed a gain of 7 per cent, throughout the manufacturing industry. There was little change in shipping conditions, though the idle tonnage in the United States and the world as a whole fell off one-tenth.
