CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES. ACCUSED REMANDED FOR A WEEK. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—-Copyright. London, Nov. 26. Hesketh Pearson, charged with fa lie pretences, was remanded for a wqek. The publisher's counsel pointed out that Pearson approached John Dunbar, of Oldhams Press Limited, with who n he was acquainted, and suggested tin publication of “The Whispering Gallery’’ as a serial in the newspapers. Dunbar said it was useless without a name. Subsequently, as the result of pressure Pearson gave the name of Sir Rennell Rodd as the author. Dunbar then submitted the manuscript to Lanes, giving Pearson's name. Dunbar's name standing high in the publishing world, Lane proceeded with the publication. When the newspaper attack started, Dunbar interviewed Pearson, and the latter said: “I am sorry I have caused this trouble.”

Dunbar said: “Did you tell me a lie?”

Pearson replied: “'Unfortunately 1 did. I have already apologised to Sir Rennell Rodd for it.”
