CRICKET COMPETITIONS

SATURDAY’S PLAY IN TARANAKI BIG SCORING IN NORTHERN DIVISION KINGSTON MAKES ANOTHER CENTURY Bleak, almost wintry weather with intermittent rain and hail squalls throughout the afternoon marred the continuation of the cricket competitions in Taranaki on Saturday. Several good scores were registered in New Plymouth, Kingston (New Plymouth) reaching his second century by scoring 104 against Western Park. In spite of this and the fact that C. G. Clarke took six Western Park wickets for 11 runs, New Plymouth suffered their first defeat. Old Boys B (I. W. Palmer 94) made 253 for the loss of seven wickets against Old Boys A, winning the match on the first innings. In South Taranaki Midlands made 134 in their first innings, Manaia having compiled 24 for one wicket when stumps were drawn. Okaiawa made 95 in their first innings against Excelsior.
