The Maoris lieat Leicester by 15 to 13 before an attendance of 18,000 spectators. Leicester first pressed and penned t-ha Maoris for several minutes iu their own territory. The .Maoris were penalised for off-side play and Prentice kicked a goal. Pelham seemed certain to score after a powerful. run, but was grassed near the line. The Maoris were then given a penalty kick from which they gained' nothing. Leicester’s fast wing three-quarter (Farudon) got the ball near the halfway soon alter and, swerving cleverly, crossed under the posts, Prentiee easily converting. Before the interval Falwat • scr scored an unconverted try for the Maoris. The second half was splendidly contested, the pace increasing with the spectators" excitement. Falwasser dived over for a good try which was not converted, and Wilson finished oil some sterling work with a splendid dropped goal. Leicester replied by Prentice throwing himself oxer when hard pressed to score a try which was not converted. The Maoris got together and brought the scores level with a try, and tremendous excitement reigned. There was tense silence while Love kicked the goal which gave his team a last minute victory. The Maoris deserved to win. They played fine football and showed great staying power. The Maoris’ team was: Potaka, Phillips, Pelham, Falwasser, Kingi. Love, Wineera, Bell, Olsen, Dennis, Wilson, Rika, Robinson, Manihera, 8. Gemmell.
