RHODES SCHOLARSHIP

THE SELECTIONS MADE. MESSRS HASLAM AND KALAUGHER By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 26. Tho Rhodes scholars selected are Messrs. A. L. Haslam (Canterbury College) and W. Kalaugher (Victoria College).

On the scliolastie side, Mr. A. L. Hasdanv has been one of the most brilliant students at Canterbury College. He entered Canterbury College in 1922, from Waitaki Boys’ High School, and took a law course. He gained his LL.B, in 1924, and last year took his LL.M, with first-class honours. He was the first New Zealand student to take the two exam illations in two successive years. Mr. Haslam is also a prominent member of the College Athletic Club. He has represented Canterbury College for two years in the long distance events at*the Easter tournament, and has also been a prominent member ol the Harriers. He has represented his college in debating, both in the University tournament and in various other places. This year he was a member of the Canterbury team which won the University debate at Dunedin. Mr. Haslam is also a member of other college societies. Mr. Kalaugher has had a distinguished career at Victoria College and is at present a master at Wellington College.
