SHOT IN PICTURE SHOW

EVIL INFLUENCE OF FILMS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Nov. 26. Sydney Burgess, who fired a revolver he had in his pocket during a picture show and wounded a man, was sentenced to a year in gaol, the sentence to be suspended under the First Offenders Act, the Judge remarking that he accepted the contention of accused’s counsel that Burgess was influenced to some extent by pernicious picture shows, at which lawlessness was presented as something to be admired and where men who used revolvers and knives were held up as heroes. The Judge said that there were circuit, stances connected with picture shows which were having an evil influence on the youth of the country.
