CROQUET.
I PARITUTU CLUB OPENING. The opening of the Paritirtu Croquet Club took place on Thursday afternoon, and a large number of ladies from the other clubs were present. Mr. W, W. Thomson, president of the Paritutu Bowling Club, performed the opening ceremony and welcomed the visitors. He mentioned the faet that play had taken place on the 'green last season, but the formal opening had been postponed till this year. He stressed the happy relations that existed between the bowling and croquet elnbs. ! and thanked the ladies for their kindly ■ help from the beginning of the bowling j club’s existence. He hoped as time i went on that many improvements would be made to' the croquet green and its | stirroundings, which were capable of much beautifying. The president of the Croquet Club then drove the first ball, limidst applause, and Mr. Thomson declared the green open. A dainty afternoon tea was provided by the ladies and. a Very enjoyable ! afternoon was spent by all present. Golf croquet was played by the visitors for prizes donated, by Mrs. Reader and Mrs. Thomson. Miss Irvine won the first, Mrs. L. Honeyfteld the second, and Mrs. ■ Fletcher the third.
