STRONG COMMENT BY ASSIGNEE. "SHOCKING STATE OF AFFAIRS.” By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. “This is a shocking state of affairs,” said the Official Assignee, Mr. G. N. Morris, at a meeting of the creditors of Neil John McNeill this morning. “He burned his books, he left his partner to bear the responsibility, and he disappeared. There is nothing that can be said for him.” z A deficit of £162 was shown in the statement. The business in which he was associated with a partner was a picture house at Waitoa. The Assignee, in examining bankrupt, remarked that he disappeared 'and his creditors did not know where to find him. The meeting decided to oppose bankrupt’s discharge until he made some effort to reduce his liabilities, and a motion of sympathy with his partner was also passed.
