THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Wellington, Nov. 25.

The Associated Chambers of Commerce carried the following remits:— "That except for such graduated tax as is necessary to prevent land aggregation and the idle holding of rural lands, the land tax be abolished and the income from land be taxable in the same manner as income from other sources; that while congratulating the Government on its increased activity in advertising New Zealand abroad, the conference reaffirms that the needs of the Dominion demand still greater efforts and that Parliament be urged to appropriate annually swh amount as the importance of the subject demands; the conference also urges that more constructive efforts be made to exploit tlie scenic, health and sport resources on commercial lines

A remit to the effect that private British capital applied to the breaking in of the >econd-c!ass lands of the Dominion would afford a thoroughly efficient solution of the question of the ability of the Dominion satisfactorily to absorb a largely increased number of British immigrants was debated al length and lost.
