Mr. . Morton, President of the National Dairy Association, returned from Wellington last night.

Mr. G. W. F. Ambrose, of the mechanical staff of the Wanganui Telephone Exchange, Ills been transferred to Hawera on promotion. Mr. If. C. M. Mclvor. manager of the Bank of Australasia, Manaia, will retire on superannuation on December 2. lie is being succeeded by Mr. W. B. Patterson, of Waipukurau, Hawke’s Hay.

Private advice has been received in Stratford of the serious illness of Laly Ward, says the Stratford Post. It was thought a few days ago that there could be very little hope of her recovery but happily her condition haw now changed for the better. Captain T. J. Wood has been selected from seven applicants to succeed Mr. J. W. Laing as secretary and pilot to # tho Waitara Harbour Board. He will commence duties next Wednesday. Captain Wood is a member of an old Taranaki family. He was at Seapa Flow during the war. and then met with an injury which ultimately caused the loss of his ann. He has been employed for 12 months in the office of the Stratford Borough Council. Mr. R. L. Pearless has been appointed to tlie position of engineer to the Taurangp County Council, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. A. A. Woodt ward, who has been appointed engineer to the Waikato County Council. Mr. Pearless has for some time been on the engineering staff of Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth Company at the railways contract works between Wairoa and Tuapiro. Before that ho was engaged on the extensions to th(s New Plymouth hydro-elect rival works.
