FITZROY SCHOOL
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The Fitzroy School Committee held their usual monthly meeting in the schoolroom on Tuesday night, when there were present: Mr. G. V. Matthews (chairman), Messrs. J. A. Burr, J. Buttimore, T. Florence, H. Hall, C. Harvey, A. J. Alack, E. Thomas A. E. Lewis (secretary). Mr. G. A. Lyall, headmaster, was also present. The headmaster's report stated, inter alia.: The average attendance for the month was 390, the highest attendance on any one day 407; nine pupils were admitted and six withdrawn, the present roll number being 430. One teacher was absent owing to illness, and Mrs. Mac Diarmid was relieving. The report suggested December 14 as the date of the school sports, and a request was made for authority to procure certificates for the winners. Torn candidates will sit for the Junior National Scholarship examination. 'Hie visiting committee reported that the rolling of the playground was not altogether a success. The tennis courts were in excellent order. Some minor repairs to the schools were necessary and should be attended to during the .holidays. Messrs. Florence and Lewis were appointed the visiting committee for December. The sports committee made the following suggestions with regard to the tennis courts: That subscriptions for the use.of the courts to the end of the tenuis season be: ’Teachers and then wives, committee men and wives, 10s6d; subscribers other than above, 106d each if paid before December 25, after that date 15s. Flours courts ate available: Before 8 a.m.j 1 to 3 p.m.; and from 4.30 p.m. onwards; one court at all times to be reserved for the school children. That an account— Fitzroy School Sports Fund—be opened in the New Plymouth Savings Bank, into which all receipts from this source will be paid. That Mr. G. A. Lyall be appointed secretary and treasurer, and authorisation was sought for the purchase of some material to complete the equipment. The report was adopted. Arising out of the reports: The repairs to the swings will bo left to Mr. Harvey. The sports committee will meet on Thursday night to make the necessary arrangements for the school sports; the chairman and headmaster will procure the certificates. Mr. Buttimore was authorised to procure permanent labels for the plants round the summer house. In view of the coming holidays, the next meeting of th© committee will be held on Thursday, December 9, y BOY SCOUTS. At the conclusion of the meeting, the School Committee, with Mr. G. A. Lyall, met as the Fitzroy of Boy Scouts’ Management Committee. Mr. Noel Milne (Scoutmaster) and Patrol-Leader Alsopp also attended. U. Harlow. A. Dunean, 11. nite and 1). Roebuck were granted
cyclists’ badges on the certificate ’of the examining officer. The Scoutmaster brought forward the subject of uniforms, which had been purchased by the troop and supplied to member’s, and some- of which had not been-paid for. - It transpired during the discussion that the troop started some time ago and for a while there was considerable enthusiasm in the movement, there came a slump, and with it some laxity, and there is a little trouble in tracing out by the present management just how things stooT It was resolved that the previous Scoutmaster be asked if he can supply the information with regard to the uniforms.
