A monster motor gymkhana and parade of the latest motor-cars was conducted by the- South Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association in conjunction with the Egmont A. and P. Association. At about 1.15 p.ms the procession of motor-cars left the post office, headed by the Hawera Main School drum and file band (conducted by Mr. H. C. A. Fox), and proceeded along High Street to the showgrounds. At the grounds the procession Entered the ring and paraded before the large crowds of spectators. In all there were about 60 mptor-cars ranging from the very latest in motordom to some of the earliest models, which were specially got up, *and the effects in many cases was most comical. In the van of the procession Was a vehicle resembling one of the earliest models with the title

“Shuvrolet” in prominent position. , Tire power for the propulsion of the vehicle was provided by the harnessing of a horse at the back of the vehicle. The contrast between this old-fashioned relic and the many handsome cars in the parade was most marked. Other ludicrous sights were provided by a 1910 model Ford, a very ancient Saxon car, one of the first models turned out by Buick, and another car, the original design of which was somewhat obscured by “improvements” effected by the driver. These many ancient models highly amused the crowd but their admiration was aroused by the 60 latest specimens of the ever-improving class of motor-car. There were sports models, touring cars, limousines, sedans and, in short, every class of car on the market in Taranaki today, the total value of the whole parade pai-ade being in the vicinity of £30,000. After the many care had paraded before the public several times competitions were held and the onlookers were treated to exhibitions of skilled driving and in many cases thrills were provided. Mr. W. G. Walkley was gymkhana marshal. The details of the contests are as follow :—• _ Tilting at rings—Mr. N. Grant, 37sec., 5 rings, 1; McLeod, 30 3-ssec., 4 rings, 2 ; W. W. Davey, 31sec., 4 rings, 3. Three ladies competed, the best performance being that of Mrs. Clark, who collected three rings in 41«ec. Six rings was the possible. Acceleration test.—'F. Latham covered the distance in 10 2-ssec., R. Curtis 10 4-ssec, and W. G. Walkley 11 l-ssec. were second and third respectively. Figure of eight competition on motor cycles.—A. Cressey rode through all the ■ obstacles without hitting any and won. Only three competitors entered. Musical Chairs. —Miss ’ Wilkie and Mr. Garden. Car balancing.—Mr. R. Curtis 1; Mr. Garden 2.
