PROHIBITED IMMIGRANT

BROUGHT HERE AGAINST WISH.

At the Police Court a German seaman was charged that, being a prohibited immigrant he did unlawfully land in New Zealand without a permit. He had left the American steamer West Nivaria, but now asserted that he was not on the ship's articles, and that he was brought away from America without his consent. Counsel for the accused said accused and another man were shangkaied on to the West Nivaria. Accused was anxious to get back to begin an action against the captain of that vessel. The magistrate released accused oa his own recognisances.
