DISTRICT NURSE COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Dstrict Nurse Con-mittee was held on Tuesday afternoon. The Mayoress (Mrs. F. E. Wilson) presided, and there were present: Mesdames T. Shaw, Brash, G. V. Matthews, M. Avery and Sister Webster. It wis decided not to hold another committee meeting until January. An offer from Miss Leatham to give a musical recital in St. Mary’s Hall on Thursday, December 2, to provide an emergency fund for families in distress, the fund to be administered by the District Nurse Committee on the advice of the district nurse, was gratefully accepted and arrangements were put in hand for the recital. Miss Leatham will be assisted by Misses Coleman and Ross and Mr. Dobson. A matinee will be held in St. Mary’s Hall on Saturday afternoon, December 4. Sister Webster reported a busy month. In addition examinations in practical nursing were conducted at the Public Hospital for nurses and under the auspices of the Red Cross Society in elementary home nursing. Four families were on the register during the . month, whilst two families were discharged. Ninety-three homes had been visited and visits were paid to three ex-patients in hospital and three charitable aid recipients. Domestic help had been arranged for two families and nursing help for two families. Clothing had been supplied to 14 families, 228 articles being supplied. The committee gratefully acknowledges the following gifts:—Old linen, Mesdames S. Millar, Newman, Renaud, Tate, Manfell, Holme (Spotswood), Brash, Matron Girls’ High School, anonymous. Mrs. Black; clothing, . Mesdames McKinney, Drake, E. Shaw, Tate, Looney, Holme, Minchin (Inglewood), Newman, Throssel, Ewing, Black, Misses Harding Lane; invalid delicacies, flowers and books: Mesdames Brash, Newman, Loveridge, Miss Hempton. Gifts of vegetables and clothing are always greatly appreciated and may be left at the office of the Hospital Board, Egmont Street.
