METHODIST SYNOD
TARANAKI-WANGANUI DISTR ICT. GATHERING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. Many ministers, 'home missionaries and laymen of the Methodist Chureli of New' Zealand are at present in New Plymouth for the annual meeting of the Taranaki-Wanganui district synod, which commenced in the church hall yesterday morning. The day was occupied by a meeting of the ministerial committee, and in the evening the synod met as a district home mission committee. During the morning the Rev. E. P. Blamires addressed the ministerial committee on Sunday school work. The result of the committee’s work will be placed before the representative session for discussion to-day. The Rev. A. Blakemore was recommended to conference for ordination and the Rev. J. Reid was passed in his year. Mr. A. J. Ferris was recommended as a candidate for the ministry and Messrs. B. H. N. Teague, D. The representative session of the synod will commence this morning at 9.30 o'clock, under the chairmanship of the Rev. W. J. Oxbrow. Mr. Oxbrow, who is chairman of the district, will conduct contmuniqn service, assisted by the Revs. G. P. Hunt and W. W. Avery, an address will be given by the Rev, A. E. Jefferson, and prayers will be said by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell and Mr. E. Dixon. A welcome to the synod on behalf of the town will bo extended by the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) at 11.30 a.m., and Mr. C. E. Bellringer, M.P., will perforin a similar compliment for the local Methodists. Mr. E. Dixon will acknowledge the welcome, and afterwards the business _of the meeting will bo taken. The Rev. T. R. Richards, ex-president of the conference, will preside at a musical festival in the church in the evening. The programme is to include anthems, hymns, solos, duets and quartettes, to be .given by the combined choirs of the town Methodist Churches, under the direction of Mr. R. Laurie Cooper, conductor of the Whiteley Church choir. The representative session will be concluded to-morrow.
