PAYMENT FOR PRODUCE

BIGGER OUTPUT; LESS RETURNS.

POSITION IN NORTH TARANAKI.

In yesterday’s News an article was pnblislied dealing with the output this season from 18 North Taranaki dairy factories, and the output in the corresponding period last year, as well as the total pay-outs for this season and the same period last season. It was shown that while production from these 18 factories had increased by 8.18 per cent., the advances made by the factories to suppliers had decreased by 21.1 per eent. Yesterday the figures quoted in the News were supplemented by the returns from another important group of factor ies, comprising the Mangorei, I’atua, North Taranaki, Lepperton and Mokau factories. The conclusion arrived at is much the same. Though the pay-outs with these five factories has been, comparatively speaking, rather more this season than with the other 18, the proportionate increase in output in almost exactly the same. The output of the five factories mentioned has increased by 56,2451b5. of butter-fat from 709,1431 b. to 7G5,3881b., a matter of almost exactly 8 per cent., while their aggregate pay-outs have decreased by £6648 from £51,147 to £44,499, a matter of about 13 per cent? Adding these returns to those from the other 18 factories, it will be found that the total output from the 23 factories (representing the greater part of the industry in North Taranaki) so far this season has been 23,336,0481 b. of but-ter-fat, an increase of 175,1321 b. from the output in the corresponding period last year, when it was 2,160,9161 b. This amounte to an increase of approximately 8 per cent. The returns of total pay-outs from the 23 factories show a decrease this season of £30,181, or a little-over 18 per cent This season the pay-outs so far have amounted to £132,367. Last season, in the same period, they were £102,548.
