A STATE OF EMERGENCY NUMEROUS ARRESTS MADE. DARING RAIDS PERPETRATED, By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Dublin, Nov. 21. The executive has issued a proclamation that a state of emergency exists in consequence of raids. Numerous arrests are expected. Eight armed men motored to the Civic Guards’ barracks in Dublin and, when the sentry refused admission, opened fire, shattering windows and wounding a policeman. The guards, using revolvers, wounded a raider. A flying squad searched the houses of Republicans in the vicinity and made many arrests. A'daring hold-up occurred at Athenry. Two armed, masked men stopped a motor-ear in which an overseer was carrying workmen’s wages, seized the money, and decamped. Received Nov. 22, 8.40 p.m. London, Nov. 22. Sixteen raids followed the proclamation of a state of emergency in the Free State, and have resulted in 50 arrests. Offices of Republican newspapers were searched, and some current issues confiscated.
