THE PACIFIC CABLE
DUPLICATION COMPLETED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Pacific Cable Board announces the completion of the laying of new cables from Bamfield to Fanning Island and from Fanning Island to Suva. The final splice was made on the latter at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, and on the Bamfield-Fanning Island section at 3 p.m. on Sunday. November 21. Both cables are reported to be testing satisfactorily. The work of laying them had been delayed on account of the exceptionally unfavourable weather at both Fanning Island and Suva. The cables remain in the contractor’s hands for a further thirty days, and if they continue to test electrically perfect for that period of submersion they are then taken over by the board for the transmission of traffic.
